It's fit very well, thank you.
Teaching is just that, isn't it? Teaching what we and everyone else needs to know in the real world. What they need to know, and using a method to teach them what they need to know by what they need to know is icing on the cake. If that sounded like a tongue twister, what I mean to say is that technology needs to be taught because it is in the "real" world (not implying that the teaching world is fake) and what could be better than to teach technology with technology?! Whether your highest technological knowledge is from Paul Simon's Kodachrome or from having experienced Tokyo's Sky Tree, technology continues to be in our lives and it is growing faster than weeds! Really, it is.
Technology won't turn us all into robots. And for those who believe that the accepting a computer in the classroom is the first step towards a nasty downward spiral into a robotized world, let it be known that the idea of automatons started long before, to be exact over 200 years before, the flushing indoor toilet had even been invented.
Watch an automaton circa 1560 here.
Watch an automaton circa late 19th century here.
So some old Luddites might say we are all trying to reinvent the wheel. Taking old things that work just fine, and changing them because we confuse change for progress. But are we? After watching this video, I'd say we have a lot of wheels, gadgets, and gizmos to reinvent all over again!
Technology doesn't just fit, but it belongs in the classroom just as it belongs in the world. Technology is making our life easier as it poses more challenges for us, mentally and physically. We have a ton of resources at our finger tips and only a limited amount of excuses as to why we don't use them. As access to technology increases for all of the earth's children, I hope that we all as teachers stand united in understanding the vital role and blessing of using technology in the classroom.
